The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has granted full accreditation to the B.Sc Accounting programme of Ritman University (RU), Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
ICAN Registrar, John I. Evbodaghe conveyed this approval in a letter to the RU Vice Chancellor after an assessment visit, while the presentation of Accreditation Certificate would hold in April 2020.
In its report as approved by ICAN Council, the assessment team led by Prof Ofurum Clifford cited strengths of RU Accounting programme to include among others: an IT centre with appropriate Accounting packages; functional and well-maintained computer systems; massive infrastructural development; library with adequate and current books; stable power supply; conducive office environment; adequate classrooms; a course programme and examination administration that is in line with that of the institute; and no incidence of examination malpractice.
On the strength of this accreditation, graduates of the RU Accounting department would qualify as members of ICAN and be granted exemption from writing certain subjects in ICAN examination.
RU Accounting programme is designed to equip graduates of the department with the required analytical, human relations and communication skills necessary to prepare them for future challenges in financial institutions. Other courses offered in RU have also been accredited by the National Universities Commission.
