Ritman University Holds Candle Light Procession in Honour of Late Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Emmanuel Essien.
The Management Team, Staff, and Students of Ritman University on 1st December, 2025, held a solemn candle light procession in honour of the late Dr.(Mrs.) Grace Emmanuel Essien, wife of the University’s Founder and Visitor, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, FNSE.
The emotional event was organised to pay tribute to a Mother whose vision, compassion, and quiet strength contributed immensely to the ideals upon which the Ritman institutions were built.
The procession began within the University campus as participants, holding candles and walking in coordinated silence, moved through designated routes, symbolising unity and the enduring light of the values she represented. The march concluded at the Founder’s residence, where the community gathered to share words of comfort, reflection, and solidarity with the bereaved family.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akan B. Williams, delivered a brief but heartfelt condolence remark, describing the late matriarch as a pillar of support, and a guiding force who believed in the power of education to transform lives. He also introduced the pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Celestine A. Ntuen, who was also present, alongside the Co-Founder/member of Governing Council, Engineer Sunday Umoh.
In his response, the Founder, Senator Emmanuel Ibok Essien, FNSE, expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming show of love and solidarity. He spoke reflectively about the life and times of his beloved wife, recalling her unwavering dedication, kindness, and commitment to the collective vision they shared. His reflections highlighted the profound impact she had on their family and on the institutions they built together.
