Ritman University once again demonstrated its commitment to holistic education, student development, and sporting excellence as it successfully hosted the 2026 Inter-Faculty Games Competition, a week-long sporting festival that brought together students, staff, and invited institutions in an atmosphere of healthy competition, unity, and recreation.
The event, which ran for one week and culminated in a colourful Grand Finale held on Monday, 22nd June 2026, showcased the University’s growing reputation as a centre for academic excellence balanced with sporting and recreational development.
The competition featured an exciting line-up of athletic and field events designed to encourage participation, strengthen community ties, and uncover emerging talents. Sporting activities included 100m, 200m, 400m races, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, high jump, invitation relay races, staff races (male and female), 800m open race, management and staff walk race, and long jump. Earlier-concluded events also featured lawn tennis, discus, javelin, shot put, football, and triple jump, attracting remarkable participation and enthusiasm across faculties and invited teams.
Throughout the week, students competed passionately while demonstrating discipline, resilience, and teamwork, values that align strongly with Ritman University’s vision of producing well-rounded graduates prepared for leadership and service. The event transformed the campus into a vibrant sporting arena, creating memorable experiences and reinforcing the University’s commitment to student engagement beyond the classroom.
Adding prestige and broader participation to the competition was the presence of invited institutions whose athletes enriched the sporting experience through outstanding performances. Invited institutions included University of Uyo, Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi; Akwa Ibom State University, Obong University, Etim Ekpo; Topfaith University, Mkpatak; Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua; Federal College of Education, Ididep; Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences, Ikot Ekpene Campus; College of Education, Afaha Nsit; and St. Joseph Major Seminary, Ikot Ekpene.
Particularly notable during the grand finale was the impressive performance recorded by athletes from St. Joseph Major Seminary, Ikot Ekpene; Topfaith University, and the Akwa Ibom State College of Nursing Sciences, Ikot Ekpene Campus, whose participation elevated the level of competition and earned them commendable medal finishes across selected events. Their presence further strengthened inter-institutional relationships and highlighted the spirit of collaboration and healthy rivalry that characterised the games.
One of the defining highlights of the event was the recognition of individual excellence. In celebration of outstanding performance and contribution to sports development, Smart Shedrack Akong, a student of the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, received an Award of Honour in recognition of his exceptional performance. Smart also emerged once again as the Best Footballer of the Year, successfully defending his reputation as one of Ritman University’s most outstanding football talents. His consistency, leadership on the field, and dedication to excellence earned admiration from spectators and participants alike and served as inspiration to fellow students.
The competition was further enriched by institutional support and community involvement, with staff, management, technical officials, coaches, volunteers, and sports enthusiasts contributing significantly to the overall success of the games. The atmosphere throughout the week reflected a collective commitment to promoting physical wellness, talent discovery, and institutional pride.
As the curtains closed on the 2026 Inter-Faculty Games Competition, Ritman University once again reinforced the message that education extends beyond academic achievement.
